As warmer temperatures and rain have moved through the area Sunday night, main road conditions have improved overnight, but hazardous conditions still exist on most roadways.
Crews have been battling winter conditions since yesterday and continue that fight into today following a winter storm which left almost five inches of snow in some places in the District.
The focus in most counties in the District have been Priority A routes such as Interstate 65, the parkways and U.S. routes. In Logan County that would include U.S. 68-80 from South Union to the Todd County line, U.S. 431 from Adairville to Russellville, Terry Wilcutt Highway to Logan Aluminum and then the remainder of U.S. 431 to the Muhlenberg County line, and U.S. 79 from Russellville to the Todd County line.
With many of those routes improving, Priority B and C routes are beginning to get worked on by the crews. The roadways are still not completely clear and Priority B and C routes are still in bad shape. Interstate 65 is in good shape across the district. But even some other Priority A routes still have spotty snow coverage on them.
Because of the rain and warmer conditions slushy conditions exist in many areas. These conditions cause vehicles to lose traction very easily causing vehicles to slide on the roadways.
If motorists have to be out please slow down and use caution. Give snowplows and other vehicles plenty of space and give a lot of extra time to get to your destination.
A lot of common sense will go a long way during winter storm driving for those that have to be out.
