We received notice this past week that two students from Russellville Jr/Sr High School had been chosen to represent us during the Governor’s Scholarship Program this summer. Congratulations to the following students:

--Ashlee Gilbert, daughter of Don and Holly Gilbert, is a junior at RJSHS.
--Will Mullen, son of Jason and Tanya Mullen, who is also a junior at RJSHS.

These students join approximately 1,000 other GSP students who were chosen from a pool of about 2,000 candidates for this prestigious honor. The Governor's Scholars Program strives to enhance Kentucky's next generation of civic and economic leaders. Established in 1983, the program provides academic and personal growth through the balance of a strong liberal arts program with a full co-curricular and residential life experience. Students must complete an application and compete with others from across the state. Those selected attend the program free of charge.

KELLY Russell Classic

This coming weekend marks the 4th Annual Kelly Russell Classic Baseball and Softball Tournament. This tournament is held in honor of a former RHS student, Mr. Kelly Russell, who tragically passed away from an injury he sustained during warm-ups of the regional baseball tournament of Ma, 1974. There will be several games held on Saturday, including a luncheon and ceremony, in which Kelly’s sister, Joanne Bennett, will address the teams.

ARCHERY

The Russellville Archery Team traveled to the state tournament over spring break. As a team, they shot well enough to qualify for the National 3D Tournament, which will also be held in Louisville during the month of May! Congratulations to our Panther Archers as they have worked extremely hard to achieve their goals this year. We wish them the best as they prepare for national competition!

BAND

The RMS and RHS Band students, under the direction of Mr. Brian Brown, traveled to WKU this past week for concert band assessments. Both the middle school and high school programs received Proficient ratings for their performances. Congratulations to our band students and to Mr. Brown!

Nelson was invited to State with his manipulated image “Summer Break at the Farm”.
Ashley Pitts and Taryn Gray were invited to Level 2 with “Project Pathway,” which highlighted all CTE programs offered to RHS students. They created a brochure that was taken to Frankfort by Ashley McGinnis and they also created introductory videos of each class/teacher and a website for more information.

Cassidy Farwick and Addison Mosier were invited to Level 2 with “Meet the Panthers” which incorporated videos of all RJSHS teachers embedded into QR Codes and placed on a website they created.

Hunter McDowell was also invited to be part of the Social Media after an interview last fall. He was able to use Twitter to keep the participants and observers up to date on all things happening in the moment at Rupp Arena. He received the Social Media Team Award.

Madison Rose received the KYSTE Mary Grace Jaeger Award Outstanding STLP Senior in the amount of $1,000 “for demonstrating outstanding achievement in leadership and dedication for learning with technology.”
