Down the Backstretch They Come!

Two weeks and counting till Christmas Break. While the year may be winding down, students and teachers are still hard at it with a full slate of testing, finals, and finishing the semester up strong. This past week saw basketball tip off and the coming two weeks are full of activity for Panthers at both the middle and high schools. Lots of happenings!

Star benchmark testing Week!

This week marks the second benchmark testing of all students at Russellville Middle and High School in the areas of Reading and Math. The Star Benchmark tests provides data to students as to where they fall grade-level wise in the areas of reading and math. The Star Testing system is a nationally recognized measurement and complies the data of millions of students across the US. The majority of Response to Intervention (RTI) services at RJSHS are based on Star scores.

8th and 11th Graders Scrimmage On-Demand Writing

All 8th and 11th graders at RMS and RHS got a practice run at On-Demand Writing this past week. On-Demand writing is one of the major measurements for 8th graders and 11th graders in the Kentucky Department of Education’s Accountability system. The whole RJSHS faculty is coming together this week to grade each students’ paper individually in order to provide students with personalized writing feedback.

The boys opened their season with a 53-45 win over 4th Region opponent Allen Co. Scottsville. The win gave Coach Rex Booth his first win as a Russellville Panther. In the game, the Panthers used a stifling defense and timely shooting to take the lead and never fully relinquish it. Junior Jacob Naylor and freshman Anthony Woodard both led the Panthers with 12 points apiece while senior Akeem Dukes had 11. The Panthers travel with the ladies this week for two double headers. They face a 0-2 Warren East Team on Tuesday and then take on a red-hot Todd County team on Friday. The Rebels are sitting at 2-0 early in the season. On Saturday, the Panthers host Glasgow.
