Russellville academic teams shine as Homecoming Week begins

MLK Walk and Unity presentation

This past week, under the direction of RJSHS Assistant Principals Cameron Jackson and Carlos Qualres as well as teachers from RMS and RHS, 8^th Grade students as well as many of RHS’s junior class attended the make-up MLK walk and unity presentation in downtown Russellville. The walk, which had to be rescheduled due to weather conditions on the original date, was a huge success and an opportunity for students to hear firsthand accounts of the struggles and triumphs of the Civil Rights Movement as well as the impact of the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King.  

Middle School and High School Academic Teams

“Get after it” at their Competitions

As reported by RHS Academic Team Coaches Jennifer Rogers and Donna Wlikerson, there was plenty of success by both the High School and Middle School academic teams this past week!

The RHS Academic Team competed in district Governor's Cup at Franklin-Simpson High School.

The team placed 1st overall, 1^st in quick recall, and 2^nd in future problem solving. 

In math, Phillip Wilkerson placed 2^nd, and Adam Williams placed 3^rd. 

In Science, Phillip Wilkerson placed 1^st and Mathew Wilkerson placed 2^nd.

In science written assessment Allison Sadler placed 3rd, Maleah Buckner placed 4^th, and Jayden Hammer placed 5^th.

In Social Studies, Ben Slack placed 1^st while Adam Williams took 3^rd

In social studies written assessment Phillip Wilkerson placed 1^st and Matthew Wilkerson placed 2^nd.

In Arts and Humanities, Will Mullen took 1^st and Kyran Williams took 3^rd

Benjamin Slack placed 1^st and Adam Williams placed 3^rd in arts & humanities written assessment,

In Language Arts, Allison Sadler took 3^rd, Maleah Buckner 4^th and Jayden Hammer 5^th

In written composition, Ashlee Gilbert placed 4th, and Karlee Elrod placed 3^rd.

The Russellville Middle School Academic Team put on an impressive performance at district KAAC Governor's Cup competition at Lewisburg! The team finished 2nd overall with the quick recall team finishing 2^nd and future problem solving team taking 1^st.

Jennifer Wilkerson placed 1^st in written composition and 5^th in language arts. Gracie Ann Beard placed 5^th in written composition

Luke Skipworth placed 3rd in math and 2^nd in science.

Taylor Gwynette took 3^rd in science

Anna Ragland placed 2^nd in social studies.

In Arts and Humanities Allysia Davis placed 5^th.

Russellville BETA Clubs Go on the Road

The RHS BETA Club is traveling to Lexington this week to participate in the State competition. The Jr. BETA Club members get their turn on Wednesday as they head to Lexington as well.

Band garners more accolades at WKU Honors Band

Mr. Brian Brown and the RHS Band just keeps earning recognition for their excellence. This past week, Mr. Brown and several members of the RHS Band attended and preformed with the WKU Honors Band. Ashlee Gilbert, Brandon Johns, Austin Coursey, Zach Baker, Noah Brown, Laura Mullen & Brandy West represented RHS very well and performed an outstanding concert.

picks up Google Certification

On her own, Mrs. Lisa Rose has recently completed her L1 Google Certification. She is now expanding on this certificate which will enable her to Google certify all members of RISD. Mrs. Rose is heading the effort within the RISD to move the District to a streamlined Google platform for technology.

MS Accelerated Reader Battle

Heating up as 8^th Grade closes the gap!

Lots of reading happening in the Middle School and the Accelerated Reader (AR) points scoreboard that sits in the Middle School hallway is tightening up. Currently the 7^th Grade leads with 2,132 points. 6^th Grade has 1,541 and 8^th Grade 1,481 and showed a 700+ point jump in a short period of time.

Seniors have a chance at the

Logan Telephone Scholarship…apply now!

The Logan Telephone Cooperative is offering three $2,000 scholarships to graduating seniors in their telephone service area. Seniors can pick up information from Coach Booth in the Guidance Office.

High School Musical

This year’s school musical will be the Disney hit High School Musical. Students interested in trying out may audition on Wednesday and Thursday of week from 3:30 – 5:30.

Middle Schooler Jennifer Wilkerson shot an astounding 279 at the Warren East Shoot earning a 1^st Place finish in the Middle School Women’s Division

Football

Coach Mikie Benton is hired as new Head Football Coach. Coach Benton becomes just the fourth man to lead the Panthers on the gridiron since 1976. Coach Benton was the team’s Defensive Coordinator this past season and has been coach in Russellville for five seasons. Coach Benton graduated from Russellville in 2008 and becomes the first alumni to lead the Panthers. He as an All State football player for the Panthers as well as a two-time State 110 meters Hurdles champion. He would go on to play defensive back at the University of Kentucky where he earned a degree in Agriculture Business. He is currently an Exceptional Education teacher in the district.  Basketball

Clash of the Cats renamed the

Mullen-Meguiar Classic in honor of two RISD Legends

On Friday night, during the Logan-RVK game, the “R” Club honored longtime coach/educators Wayne Mullen and Mickey Meguiar by renaming the Clash of the Cats, when hosted at Russellville, the Mullen-Meguiar Classic.

Thad Key Inducted in the Hall of Fame

Russellville legend Thad Key was inducted into the RHS Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday night and the 1998 Regional Championship team was honored.

#MarshallStorng Efforts raise money

for Marshall County High School

The Russellville and Logan County community came together on Friday night and put the rivalry aside for some time in respect for the community of Marshall County Both schools joined hands in a moment of silence and prayer for the people of Marshall Cunty. as well as purchasing shirts donated by Gerald Printing in which all of the proceeds went to the families of those affected by the tragic events at Marshall County.

Russellville HS Girls and Boys Basketball fell to visiting Logan County on Friday night. This week, the boys host Barren Co. on Monday night in a V/JV double header and then both the girls and boys take on Franklin-Simpson this Friday. 

Football Winter Workouts continue this week for all players not involved in other sports. Workouts will be Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 3:20 – 4:30 pm.
