It was a wet finish for the week, but we endured and everyone came out safe! Football had to adjust a bit and play on Saturday for the safety of our students, and students got an extended Labor Day weekend as Superintendent Bart Flener, in coordination with local first responders, determined that it was in the best interest of all that Friday’s weather conditions were too severe for school to be in session.
PICTURE DAY Success
Many thanks to Mrs. Lauren Fynboe and company as school picture day ran quickly and easily. For those who missed, Makeups will be on Sept. 25.
Senior Pictures will be on September 18th.
Make up Days to be thinking about
Due to the eclipse as well as the day we missed due to weather this past week, Russellville will be in session Wednesday March 28 and Thursday March 29. A Few Other Dates
Homecoming will be on Friday, Sept. 22
8th Grade Night will be on Thursday, Sept. 28
Senior Night will be on Friday, Oct. 27
Short Week
Just a reminder, Monday, Sept. 4 and Tuesday, Sept. 5, students are not in school.
Big Band Competition Coming in Two Weeks
The Show of Bands will take place in two weeks when Rhea Stadium will see nine bands from across Kentucky and Tennessee come into Russellville for the long standing competition. Sept. 16 is the set date and expected start time is 5:45 p.m.
“Russellville Ready” Up and Running
The Russellville Ready initiative that focuses on creating life-ready seniors got off and running this past week. Seniors were divided into three groups and began attending sessions that focus on real world practical developments. A perfect example of what the program is aiming for could be found in Mr. Jeremy Bivins “financial literacy” class in which students began to explore the following topics:
1. How to open a checking account
2. How to apply for a credit card and how they work
3. How checks work and how to balance an account
4. How to pay for college
5. How to apply for a job
6. How to get car insurance
7. How to live off a monthly income
Sports Happenings
The Panther Football team had to wait an extra day, but on Saturday, before a huge crowd of traveling Panther fans, Coach John Myers and the Panthers burst out the gate and never looked back, defeating Butler Co. 43-0.
This Friday marks a HUGE game as undefeated Logan County rolls into Rhea to face the Panthers. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Russellville and Logan have one common opponent, Butler County. The Cougars defeated Butler 42-24 in the season opener, while Russellville won 43-0. Logan has not been held to under 35 points in their three games while Russellville’s defense has allowed one TD in the last 10 quarters of play.
Russellville golfer Daylan Roberts shot a season low 43 against Todd County. Additionally, the Panther Golf team continues to build on success as they took 4th overall at the All A Regional Golf tournament this past week at Dale Hollow.
The Russellville 8th grade football team handled Todd County this week 30-8. The 8th grade Panthers remain unbeaten.
Panther volleyball had one of its own recognized as Fernanda Rodriguez was named to the All A Regional Volleyball team. The Panther Middle School Softball Team may have gotten rained out on Tuesday against Franklin after just a couple of innings, but not before 7th grader A’miyah Collier crushed a Home Run over the fence to give the Lady Panthers a 1-0 lead before the rain started to fall.
Student Expectations
All classrooms in Russellville JR/SR HS have been working on creating a universal understanding of the five fundamental expectations for students at Russellville. These are:
1. Be Kind 2. Show Respect 3. Do the right thing.
4. Get after it. 5. Rep RVK
