Only 18 teams located west of Louisville are among the 83 teams receiving votes in the final Associated Press rankings of the regular season in Kentucky. The Logan County Cougars are not only one of them, but they are among the highest ranked of those 83.

Coach Todd Adler’s team is ranked fifth in the state Class 4A. The only other teams from Western Kentucky ranked in the top five in their classes are Bowling Green (second in 5A), Christian County (third in 5A), Mayfield (third in 2A), Elizabethtown (4th in 3A), and South Warren (fifth in 5A).

Additionally the Cougars are among only six undefeated and ranked teams in Kentucky. The others are Christian County, Danville, Louisville DeSales, Covington Catholic and Louisville Trinity.

In Logan’s Class 4A Region I, Franklin-Simpson follows the Cougars in sixth. Allen County-Scottsville, Warren East and Hopkinsville all received votes but didn’t crack the top 10.

If the Cougars win their playoff opener Friday against visiting Warren Central, they will entertain the AC-S vs. East survivor on Nov. 10. If everything goes according to rankings, Logan will host Franklin-Simpson for the regional championship Nov. 17.

Meanwhile Athletic Director Greg Howard has announced that six Cougars have been named All-SKY. They are as follows:

1st Team All SKY Conference -    Damon Stephens (Offensive Line), Caden McKinnis (Defensive Line) and Dontavious Blann (Defensive Back)

2nd Team All SKY Conference -   Gary Hardy (Running Back), Joseph Peterson (Defensive Line) and Alex Brown (defensive Back)

Following back-to-back losses to Crittenden County and Franklin, the Russellville Panthers have dropped to number 11 in Class 1A.
