In a high scoring contest, Austin Rayno hit what proved to be the winning goal on an assist from Third Bell with eight seconds remaining to seal Logan County’s 82-80 win over a good Ohio County team Tuesday at LCHS.

Coach Lonnie Mason’s team ran its record to 3-0 with the win.

The Cougars could have won with greater ease had they hit their free throws. They went 10 for 20 at the line, but they did manage 7 of 11 in the final quarter.

They made up for it with long-range shots. Kelby Epley hit four (4 of 11) while Mykal Hampton (3 of 3) and Austin Rayno (3 of 6) were right behind. Tommy Krohn hit two more in three tries. As a team, the Cougars hit 50 percent (12 of 24) from behind the arc.

Krohn finished with 20 points while Rayno and Hampton added 18 each and Epley 13. Krohn was a sizzling 8 of 10 from the field, missing just one each of two-point and three-point attempts, and he was second in rebounding with 5. Rayno was 4 of 5 on two-pointers and he contributed 7 each of assists and rebounds, tops on the team in both. Hampton went 5 of 10 from the field and 5 of 8 at the line. Epley, who didn’t shoot inside the arc, and Jonathan Furlow each had 2 assists.

Logan Sandefur and John Parker did most of the scoring for Ohio County with 26 and 25 points, respectively. Parker hit 8 of 10 free throws.

Logan plays at Franklin-Simpson Friday, less than a week after the Wildcats won the state Class 4A football championship.
