A full team effort with great balance built a lopsided district victory for the Logan County Lady Cougars at Franklin-Simpson Friday.

Coach Finley Baird was not only able to play all 11 of her players in uniform a minimum of two quarters, but all but one of them appeared in at least three quarters.

Even more impressive: 10 of them scored in the Lady Cougars’ 58-38 win. And, talk about balance, five players tied for high scorer with 8 points each and another was just a point behind.

Halie Borders, Sara Beth Hale, Paige Vanzant, Peyton Vanzant and Kennedy Nichols were the Lady Cougars with 8 points each. Adding 7 was Blayke Bingham.

Also contributing points were Brittany Garrett with 5 and Addie White, K.J. Page and Meredith Johnson with 2 each.

Nichols led the team in rebounding with 8 while Hale and Garrett pulled down 5 each. Hale added 3 steals and 2 assists. The Vanzant twins each had 4 assists to lead the team. Garrett blocked two shots with White and Kennedy adding 1 each.

Johnson is the only senior on the team.

The only negative for the winners was hitting just 14 of 27 free throws.

Only five Lady Cats scored, led by Alera Barbee with 13 and Christina Carver with 12. Carver, a junior, is the only player older than a sophomore on new coach Cody Rich’s team.
