John Myers, who has announced his resignation as Russellville football coach, put together a remarkable run in his 14 years on the job.

Here’s a look at his record year by year and team by team:

2004: 4-7 Overall, 3-2 District, 2-4 Region

Lost first two games of his tenure to Madisonville-North Hopkins and Logan County

First win came 17-14 over Todd Central in overtime

First district loss was to his alma mater, Hancock County

First district win was over Caverna 13-12 in a Tobacco Festival afternoon game

Lost to Murray twice, including in first round of playoffs

 

2005: 7-4 Overall, 3-2 District, 3-3 Region

Won six of first seven games

First win over Logan County

First win over Hancock County

Lost to Murray again in first round of playoffs

 

2006: 8-4 Overall, 4-3 District, 4-3 Region

Won six of first seven games

Lost twice to district rival Metcalfe County

Got first win over Crittenden County, which ended his district championships run in 2017

Got first playoff win in Myers Era, beating Crittenden County after having lost to them the week before

Lost in regional semifinals to Metcalfe County

 

2007: 10-3 Overall, 6-0 District, 6-1 Region

First season playing up in Class 3A

Lost by 17 in regional semifinals to an Edmonson County team which Panthers had beaten by 17

2009: 8-5 Overall, 5-0 District, 6-2 Region

Undefeated District Champion

Lost 21—14 in regional finals to Paducah Tilghman

 

2010: 9-4 Overall, 4-0 District, 6-1 Region

Undefeated District Champion

Lost in regional finals to Paducah Tilghman after having lead

Last season in Class 3A, finished 23-5 in class, won all 4 district titles, reached 3 regional finals

 

2011: 6-6 Overall, 2-1 District, 3-3 Region

Back in Class 1A

Myers’ first games against 9 of 12 opponents; beat Hopkins County Central, South Warren, Fulton County, Fulton City and Bethlehem but lost to Trigg County, Fort Campbell, Mayfield and Louisville Holy Cross

Second loss to Logan County

Lost to Holy Cross in regional semifinals

 

2012: 8-4 Overall, 2-1 District, 3-2 Region

Beat Franklin-Simpson

Earned first win over Trigg County

Lost in regional semifinals to Kentucky Country Day

Started season 8-0

Averaged 39 points per game

Got second straight win over Franklin-Simpson

Gave up second fewest points in the state at 13.5 points per game

Lost in regional finals to district opponent Mayfield

First 11-win season with Mayfield no longer in Class 1A

Rushed for almost a mile as a team, 10th most in state history
