The week before Christmas was tough for the Logan County Lady Cougars, but they broke out of their slump in the final game before their break.

After starting their season 5-1, Coach Finley Baird’s team lost its next three games, two of them in a tournament. But they ended that tournament and pre-holiday action with a win.

The first loss was by a 61-53 score against Hopkinsville, which ran its record to 7-2 with the win. For Logan Sarah Beth Hale scored 20 with Kennedy Nichols and Peyton Vanzant scoring 10 each. Hale was on fire, hitting 5 of 6 three-pointers. Nichols also pulled down 14 rebounds. Vanzant connected on both of her attempts from long range. Blayke Bingham added 8 rebounds.

The Lady Cougars began the Bardstown Christmas Classic by losing 70-47 to the host team. The Vanzant twins, Paige and Peyton, each scored 12. Paige hit all six of her free throw attempts while Peyton was 5 of 7 on two pointers. Hale hit 7 of 9 free throws on the way to 11 points. Logan shot 19 of 24 from the line as a team.

In a 68-59 loss to Spencer County, Nichols hit 5 of 7 free throws on the way to 17 points. She also had 8 rebounds. Paige Vanzant scored 13 and Hale 11.  Brittany Garrett pulled down 7 rebounds. Even though Nichols fared well at the line, the rest of the team went 7 of 16 on free throws.

The win came 63-43 over Washington County. Nichols had a big game with 17 points, hitting 6 of 10 field goal attempts and 5 of 6 on free throws. Peyton Vanzant scored 11 points and Garrett 10. Garrett hit 4 of 5 foul shots and added 7 rebounds. Addie White hit a pair of three-pointers on the way to 8 points, and she added 4 rebounds. Halie Borders had 6 points and 7 rebounds. Bingham added 4 rebounds.

The Lady Cougars will entertain Clarksville Kenwood at 6 p.m. Friday.
