Taryn Gray had a day to remember in leading the Russellville Lady Panthers to a 3-2 win over Campbellsville at Monroe County in the Border War April 5. The versatile junior was the winning pitcher, drove in the tying run and scored what proved to be the winning run.
Chloe Whitescarver doubled to start the final inning. She advanced to third on a passed ball. After Susanna Higgins walked, Whitescarver scored the tying run on Gray’s grounder that forced Higgins. Gray went to second and third on a pair of passed balls, and then scored on Jaylah Kees’ groundout.
Addie Mosier followed with her second hit of the game and Brinley Mason walked, but they were stranded.
Gray still had to face the Eagles in the bottom of the inning, and she retired them in order to end the game. She pitched the complete game victory, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Mosier scored the first run in the second inning. She singled, moved up on Mason’s walk, and scored when an error was made on A’miyah Collier put a ball into play.
Coach Ryan Davenport’s team lost the other game of the day in the Border Battle, falling 6-3 to LaRue County.
Five different Lady Panthers got a hit. Higgins doubled while Hannah Alford, Tonisha Hampton, Mosier and Kees singled. Mosier, Kees and Whitescarver scored the runs. Gray, Hampton and Alford got the RBIs. Whitescarver worked the only walk off winning pitcher Kellee Cundiff.
Gray pitched three innings and Mosier, who took the loss, pitched two.
