The Russellville Lady Panthers await the Logan County Lady Cougars tonight with an impressive 10-2 record going into the second semester. That’s a vast improvement over last year’s 5-20 season.
In fact, Coach Cameron Jackson’s Lady Panthers are on a six-game winning streak as they await a Clash of the Lady Cats at 6 p.m. with the 7-4 Logan Ladies.
Here’s a look at their season to date:
RHS 59, Warren Central 45
Freshman Anastasia Dowlen put up a double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman DeShala LeBlanc added 14 points, Chloe Whitescarver 9 and Brooklyn Ray 8. Jayce Buchner had 8 rebounds. Macaria Hines, Whitescarver and Buchner each hit a 3-pointer.
Krisheana Johnson scored 12 points and had 14 rebounds for Coach Joe Hood’s Lady Dragons. Alyssa Conner scored 11 and La Aunhi Lewis 9.
Ohio County 63, RHS 54
LeBlanc scored 17, Whitescarver 14 and Dowlen 12. Dowlen—the state leader in rebounding—pulled in 15 rebounds. Buchner got 7 rebound.
Kelsey Kennedy scored 21, Kate Edge 14 and Heaven Vanover 13 for the Lady Eagles.
RHS 40, Butler County 33
LeBlanc scored 21 with Buchner and Ray adding 6 each. The score was low because the Lady Panthers hit only 1 of 17 from long range and 7 of 19 free throws. But their defense led them to the win.
RHS 58, Warren East 51
Whitescarver hit a 3-pointer as regulation ended to send the game into overtime, and then the Lady Panthers dominated in the extra period. LeBlanc finished with22 points while Dowlen added 12 and Whitescarver 10.
LeBlanc hit 9 of 18 shots from 2-point range and was 4 of 6 at the line. Dowlen finished with an eye-popping 21 rebounds. Whitescarver hit two treys.
Hailey Hymer scored 13 for the Lady Raiders with Lucy Patterson and Olivia Price adding 11 each. Patterson also had 10 rebounds.
RHS 59, Todd Central 27
LeBlanc scored 19, Amiyah Collier 12 and Dowlen 10. LeBlanc took 19 shots, Collier 16 and Dowlen 15. The Lady Panthers hit 3 of 24 from long range with Hines hitting two and LeBlanc 1. From 2-point territory, they went 19 of 58
Dowlen had 14 rebounds. LeBlanc was 6 of 6 at the line.
Amy Brumfield led the Lady Rebels with 9 points. Todd players didn’t hit any of their dozen 3-point attempts and 9 of their 20 free throws.
Kinley Reding had 9 rebounds with Paige Rager and Jasmine Mimms pulling down 7 each.
RHS 77, Frederick Fraize 54
Dowlen totaled 17 rebounds and 16 points. Collier, an eighth grader, had 17 points and LeBlanc 13. Also scoring were Whitescarver, Morris Jordan, Hines, Jaylah Kees, Kryslyn Underwood, Brinley Mason and Buchner.
Collier hit 7 of 10 shots, including going 3 for 3 from 3-point land. Whitescarver hit a pair of 3’s, and Underwood hit her only 3-point try.
Olivia Weatherford led the losers with 8 points.
Jo Byrns 63, RHS 57
Russellville went 5-1 in two home tournaments. This was the only loss.
LeBlanc scored 22 points and Whitescarver 18. Whitescarver hit four 3-pointers in 12 tries but the rest of the team went 2 for 9. Dowlen had 14 rebounds, very close to her average.
RHS 39, Clarksville Northeast 29
Coach Jackson’s team finished 2-1 in Russellville’s Food Bank Classic with this win.
LeBlanc scored over a third of the points with 14, hitting 6 of 14 from the field. RHS went just 11 of 27 from the foul line. Dowlen totaled 19 rebounds and LeBlanc 9.
RHS 73, Christian Fellowship 27
Collier scored 18, LeBlanc 14 and Jasmine Patel 11. Dowlen, Buchner, Hines, Kees, Mason and Morris also scored.
From 3-point range, Patel hit 3, Leblanc 2 and Kees 1. Mason led with 8 rebounds while Jordin had 7 and Kees 5.
RHS 66, Cumberland County 47
In this game with a fellow Fourth Region Class A team also named Panthers, Collier scored 23. LeBlanc 15, Dowlen 12, Hines 8 and Buchner 7. Collier hit a pair of 3’s and LeBlanc 1.
Dowlen had 17 rebounds.
Kaity Patterson scored 15 for Cumberland with Maggie Morgan adding 12, Kaylen Franklin 11 and Kaylee Anderson 10.
RHS 47, Fort Campbell 17
Coach Jackson didn’t use any of his starters in this game, but the usual subs responded vigorously. Hines scored 19, Morris 16, Morris 12, Kees 8 and Patel 5. No one else played. Kees hit two 3-pointers. Hines went 6 for 6 at the line, helping the team go 9 of 11.
Mason and Morris each totaled 15 rebounds.
Hines is a sophomore, Patel a freshman, and the other three eighth graders.
RHS 53, Frederick Fraize 42
Collier scored 15, LeBlanc 11 and Buchner, Dowlen and Mason 6 each. Collier hit 6 of 7 free throws, Hines 3 of 4, and LeBlanc 2 of 3 as the Lady Panthers’ improved free throw shooting was on display.
Dowlen had 13 rebounds.
RHS 56, Cannelton, Ind. 26
Nine Lady Panthers scored at least 3 points each, led by Dowlen with 15. LeBlanc scored 8 with Kees, Mason and Collier adding 6 each. Mason hit a pair of 3-pointers with Whitescarver and Hines adding one.
Dowlen had 14 rebounds with LeBlanc and Buchner each getting 5.
