Sarah Beth Hale took over a seesaw game Friday in Franklin to lead the Logan County Lady Cougars to a 57-42 win over the Lady Cats. The tall senior guard hit four 3-pointers in the second half and six for the game to total 23 points for Coach Finley Baird’s team.
F-S had come back from a 14-10 Logan lead to go on a 26-5 streak and lead 30-19 before Blayke Bingham hit her second 3-pointer of the half to make Franklin’s halftime lead 30-22.
The second half was all Logan. Hale hit two quick 3-pointers and Halie Borders followed with a pair of clutch goals. Paige Vanzant hit three straight free throws, and Kennedy Nichols put in the rebound on the fourth to give the Lady Cougars a 12-point lead, a 22-point reversal.
Finally, Kate Norwood hit a 3-pointer for the first goal of the half for Coach Lex Lindsey’s Cats but Franklin scored only 12 points in the second half.
In support of Hale, Vanzant scored 11 and Borders and Bingham 6 each. Nichols hit the only other bucket.
Eighth grader Hadley Turner had 19 points without missing a shot in the first half, but the Logan defense held her to a single point in the final 16 minutes. Norwood added 14.
Baird said, “We got back in this game in the second half by blocking out and got after it on defense.”
The win ran Logan’s record to 12-6 and, more importantly, 4-0 in the 13th district.
