Miller edges Cartas 1-0 in Base Ruth pitchers' duel

When the Amazing Mets bungled their way through their early years in the National League, the joke went something like this: "Did you hear a guy pitched a no-hitter for the Mets today?" "No, did they win?"

It happened to Dustin Cartas in Babe Ruth Baseball recently. The three-year starter for the Logan County Cougars pitched a no-hitter for H&H Sheet Metal, walking 2 and getting 15 of the 21 outs on strikeouts. And he lost, 1-0. Pratt Auto/Sonic Drive-In ace Thomas Miller threw a 2-hitter, striking out 14 and walking 2. The biggest statistic: Miller hurled a shutout.

Eric Haynes scored the lone run on errors, a stolen base and balls that got away. Cartas and William Fox got the game's only hits.

For the winners, Miller had three hits while Blake Gettings, Dalton Clark, Cole Acquire and Gage each got a hit. Miller drove in three runs with Gettings getting two and Wesley Haynes and Tucker Baldwin one each. Clark, Acquire and Miller scored a pair of runs each with Eric Haynes, Trent Deberry, Wesley Haynes and Hales also crossing the plate.

Pitching the win for Pratt’s/Sonic was Gettings, who went five innings, giving up 2 runs on 7 hits, 7 strikeouts and 2 walks.

Hitting for Price Funeral Home were Ryan Basham with a double and a single, Cole Stanley with 2 singles, Anthony Oberhausen with a double, and Lucas Dean and Austin Dukes. Dean singled in Stanley for one of the runs, and Stanley scored the other one on an error.

The starting pitcher for Price was Dean, going 3 innings and giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, 4 strikeouts and 0 walks. Relief pitcher Dukes pitched 3 innings, giving up 7 runs on 3 hits, 2 strikeouts and 7 walks.

Logan Telephone/Farm Bureau of Elkton edged H & H Sheet Metal 7-6 on June 14.

Hits for Logan Telephone/Farm Bureau came from Crewsdon Kemp with a single and a triple, Tucker Baldwin with a double and a single, Aaron Baldwin 2 singles, and Wesley Hughes, Aaron Taylor, Ben Wright and Wesley Eses. Kemp and Taylor each had 2 RBIS with Hughes and Aaron Baldwin getting one each. Kemp scored 3 runs and the Baldwins 2 each.

The starting pitcher for Logan Tele/Farm Bureau pitching 5 innings was Kemp, giving up 6 runs on 5 hits, striking out 4 and walking 7. Pitching 1 inning, giving up no runs on 2 strikeouts and 0 walks was Wright.

Cartis had 2 triples and a single Hits for H&H Sheet Metal while Travis Kennedy and Cole Hyde each singled. Kennedy drove in two runs with Jared England, Matt Guinn and Hyde each getting an RBI. Scoring for H & H were Cartis with 2 and Chris Powell, George Collins, Kennedy and Hyde 1 each.

Pitching 6 innings for H*H was Kennedy, giving up 7 runs on 10 hits, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts.

H&H Sheet Metal defeated Price Funeral Home 9-7 on June 15.

Cartas homered, tripled, HR, and doubled, drove in 4 runs and scored another. Tucker Baldwin and Hyde had a pair of hits each with Hyde scoring two runs. George Collins singled and drove in 4 runs. Ben Wright singled and had 2 RBIs. Deberry scored 2 runs and Chris Powell was one of those who scored.

Pitching for H&H was Collins, who allowed 7 runs on 11 hits and 4 walks with 3 strikeouts. Reliever Cartas pitched 2 hitless and scoreless innings; he had 1 walk and 4 strikeouts.

For Price Funeral Home, Oberhausen singled and double. Dukes doubled twice and scored 2 runs. Basham doubled, and England and Dean each singled. England had a pair of RBIs while Dillion Brown, Basham, and Stanley each had one. Avery Collier scored 2 runs with Guinn, Basham and Stanley adding 1 each.

Basham pitched 3 innings, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits, 4 strikeouts, and 1 walk. Reliever Dean pitched 4 innings, giving up 7 runs on 8 hits, 2 strikeouts, and no walks.

Kennedy doubled twice and drove in 4 runs. Fox singled, scored a run and had 2 RBIs. Jake Landreth doubled, scored 2 runs and added an RBI. Clark singled and scored 2 runs. Wesley Stratton had a single and an RBI. Hyde singled and scored 2 runs. Powell singled for an RBI and also scored. Rogers added a run.

Collins pitched 2 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits, 2 strikeouts and 0 walks. Relief pitcher Powell worked 3 innings, giving up 1 run on no hits, 4 strikeouts and 2 walks .

The only hits for Logan Telephone/Farm Bureau of Elkton were singles by Aaron Baldwin and Blake Pittman. Baldwin and Ben Wright drove in the runs.

Hales singled, scored and drove in a run. Cole Aquire singled and drove in a run. Jon Clark Todd and Ben Wright each scored twice. Clark scored.

Gettings and Hales each pitched a pair of hitless and scoreless innings. Gettings walked 1 and struck out 5. Hales walked no one and struck out 4.

Pitching for Price Funeral Home were Austin Dukes, Dean and Brown.

Getting hits for Pratt’s Auto Sonic Drive-In: were Eric Haynes with 2 doubles, Hales with a double, and Miller, Stratton and Tyler Harris with singles. Stratton, Haynes and Hales each drove in 2 runs and Miller 1.
Miller pitched the win on a 3-hit, 5-walk, 10-strikeout performance. The H&H hits were doubles by Powell and Cartas and Hyde's singles. Cartas drove in a run.
The starting pitcher for H&H Sheet Metal was Cartas, going 5 innings with 7 strikeouts, 6 walks and 5 hits. Also pitching to 4 batters was Powell with 3 walks and 1 hit. When Landreth pitched to 1 batter and walked him, the game was then called one the time limit.

Pratt’s/Sonic won despite getting only 4 singles, one each by Eric Haynes, Hales, Zack Lee and Gettings. RBIs went to Haynes, Lee, Deberry, Todd and Stratton. Todd scored the winning run. Hales scored 2 while Haynes, Lee and Gettings tallied 1 each.

The winning pitcher for Logan Telephone/Farm Bureau of Elkton was Kemp, pitching 5 innings, giving up 5 runs on 5 hits, 4 strikeouts and 9 walks. He gave up triples to Corey Wright and Kemp along with singles to Tucker Baldwin, Ben Wright and Taylor. Kemp and Ben Wright had 2 RBIs each and Ben Wright 1. Scoring runs were Ben Wright with 2 and Kemp and Tucker and Aaron Baldwin 1 each.

Pitching for Pratt’s/Sonic were Hales (2 innings giving up 3 runs on 4 hits, 3 strike outs, and 4
walks), followed by Gettings (3 innings giving up 2 runs on 1 hit, 1 walk and 2 strikeouts.

H & H Sheet Metal doubled the score on Price Funeral Home 6-3.

Hits for H&H came on a triple by Cartas and singles by Powell, Collins and Kennedy. Rogers drove in 2 runs with Collins, Powell and Tucket Baldwin each getting an RBI. Cartas scored 2 runs with Colby Bicksler, Landreth, Collins and Kennedy aslo scoring.
Kennedy went the distance to pitch the win, giving up 7 runs on 3 hits and 8 strikeouts without a walk.

Pitching for Price Funeral Home were Basham, who went 5 innings and gave up 5 runs on 4 hits, 6 strikeouts, and 4 walks, and Dean, who went one inning, giving up 1 run on 0 hits, 2 strike outs and 1 walk.
