The Logan County Cougars are not only first, but they are also the first first.
Coach Todd Adler’s Cougars are the highest rated football team among the 13 schools in the Bowling Green Daily News’ coverage area. That’s according to a new RPI ratings system being employed by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. It takes into consideration, among other things, won-lost record, strength of schedule, and how their opponents are doing this season.
This was the first release ever of RPI rankings for Kentucky schools.
Logan is 6-0 after a thrilling two-point win at the state’s third-ranked team, Madisonville-North Hopkins, last Friday. M-NH was one of the top ranked squads in Class 4A by the Associated Press, as are the Cougars.
Although three of their six wins have come against teams that are not having good seasons, the Cougars have been impressive in a win over a competitive Warren team and against two previously undefeated teams in Greenwood and Madisonville.
Tonight the Cougars face another squad which has been ranked in the top 10 in the state 4A rankings, Hopkinsville. Last week’s win at Madisonville was probably the LCHS program’s most impressive win ever, but regular season victories over Hoptown the last two years have been something to cherish.
Logan County is 27-3 over the past two and half seasons, including 25-1 in the regular season.
Logan’s perch at the top of area RPIs is especially meaningful when one considers many of the other teams in this group—traditional state powers in their classes South Warren, Bowling Green, Glasgow, Franklin-Simpson and Russellville.

The Logan County-at-Hopkinsville broadcast can be heard tonight on WRUS with Countdown to Kickoff starting at 6:30 with Andy and Zach Woodall.
The Fulton County-at-Russellville game Friday night, which is the RHS Homecoming, will also be aired at the same times with John Brett Reynolds and Chris McGinnis on the call.
