Despite the absence of a key player—the injured Anthony ‘Rooster’ Woodard, the Logan County Cougars breezed to a 70-43 win over Warren East Tuesday.
Senior Jay Hardison scored 26 points, hitting 6 of 10 three-pointers and 4 of 5 from close range. Classmate Dalton Thompson also shot well from two-point distance and finished with 15 points. Jose Nazario and Nathaniel Vick combined for 9-of-15 shooting for 11 and 9 points, respectively.
Blake Wood popped in 2 of 3 shots from behind the 3-point arc and added 8 points.
The Cougars dominated rebounding at 43-21. Thompson pulled down 14 of them and Nazario 11.
The good news for the Raiders was that nine players scored. The problem was that only one player—Isaiah Andrews—scored in double figures with 12. Ryan Carter added 9 and no other East player totaled more than 4 points.
The Cougar defense held Warren East to very poor shooting. The Raiders hit just a third of their shots from two-point range (9 of 27) and 5 of 17 from long range for 29.4 percent. East couldn’t hit without defense on them, either, getting just half of its 20 free throws to fall.
The win improved Coach John Tinsley’s team’s record to 15-3, second best in the region behind Bowling Green’s 16-3.
The Cougars’ 208-point margin of victory is the region’s largest. They are one of two teams in the region with 3-0 district records. Glasgow is the other.
