The Vanzants not only made sure Tuesday that their team avenged a 22-point loss earlier in the season but also that it was a statement win.
The twins combined for 44 points in the Logan County Lady Cougars’ 64-51 win over visiting Greenwood, a 35-point turnaround from that Jan. 4 Gator win in Bowling Green.
The Lady Gators are coached by former Chandlers Elementary teacher Zach Simpson, who was a highly respected assistant under Logan coach Finley Baird before taking the Greenwood job.
In that game at GHS, the Vanzants combined for just 20 points, 13 of them by Paige. This time Paige scored 25 and Peyton 19.
Paige started a 10-point run for Logan with consecutive goals, the second a 3-pointer.
Leading by nine going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars hit 15 of 18 free throws in that frame with Paige connecting on 7 and Peyton 6. For the game, Peyton was 12 of 12 at the line and Paige 9 of 10. Greenwood managed to get only 1 of 7 foul shots to fall.
Their close friend, center Kennedy Nichols, did her part with 8 points and a staggering 18 rebounds. She led the Lady Cougars to a 39-22 rebounding margin, despite 11 boards by Lady Gator Annee Lasley.
As usual, senior Addie White was the 3-point specialist for Logan. She hit 3 of them as Logan went 6 of 14 from that range. Greenwood was 4 of 14 in 3-pointers.
Baird’s team improved its record to 12-13. The Lady Gators fell to 11-12.
