AC-S comes back to edge visiting Lady Cougars

Entering the fourth quarter with the lead, the Logan County Lady Cougars went cold in the final stanza, losing 35-30 at Allen County-Scottsville Saturday. In fact, the Lady Cougars led at all three of the stops, only to score just two points in the final stanza.

AC-S got off to a 5-0 start, but the Lady Cougars led 6-5 after a quarter on a three-pointer by Sierra Seiber. Then Gracie Borders and Siebers hit three-pointers for a 12-0 streak before Taylor Carter got the Lady Patriots back on the board.

Abby Hinton hit a fourth straight Lady Cougar three-pointer to make Logan’s lead 15-7 with 5:56 remaining in the half.

AC-S started coming back behind the shooting of Allison Meador and Carter, but Coach Dedra Adler’s Lady Cougars still led 19-16 at the half.

The game was tied at 22-22, but Emerson McKinnis and Borders put Logan back up by four. Once again the home team tied it, but Borders’ layup in the final seconds gave Logan a 28-26 lead after three quarters.

Freshman Jaylee Steenbergen helped Allen County build a five-point lead. Logan’s only goal of the fourth quarter came on a jumper in the lane by Kadyn Costello with 36 seconds remaining, but veteran defensive leader Carter added a pair of free throws six seconds later for the game’s final points.

Meador finished with 11 points for the Lady Patriots. Carter added nine. Borders led the Lady Cougars with 12 points and tallied 13 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks, all team highs.

The Lady Patriots (5-12) were 13-40 (32.5%) from the floor including 3-16 from 3-point range. AC-S made six of their nine free throws. Logan County was 10-39 from the floor (25.6%) and four of 13 from three-point range. At the line, the Lady Cougars were six of nine as well. On the glass, Logan County (3-21) outrebounded AC-S 35-26. For the Lady Patriots, Jaylee Covington led in rebounding with seven.
