The Russellville Panthers will take some momentum with them to Greg Shelton Field Monday to play the host Wildcats in the opening round of the 13th District baseball tournament.
The Panthers, who have been coached by Kenneth Edmonds the second half of the season, broke a 30-game losing streak April 23. The Panthers (now 3-21) beat Warren Central (1-16) 3-1 on a pitching gem by Davin Holloway, who allowed the run on just two each of hits and walks. He struck out four Dragons.
Kristian McCall had three hits and an RBI while Holloway and Eric Zamarripa each had two hits and drove in a run. Scoring the runs were Zamarripa, Milo Brooks and Xavier Thompson.
Warren Central forfeited to the Panthers on May 5.
Then Russellville beat Dawson Springs (3-14) by an 11-5 count. Again, Holloway was dominating on the mound. Working five and two-thirds innings, he didn’t allow a run on hits and a walk while striking out six. McCall worked the final four outs.
On the season, Holloway has pitched in 14 if the 23 games played on the field, starting eight of them. He’s struck out 27 batters om the 45.2 innings he has pitched. Russellville doesn’t report earned run averages.
Brooks is the leading hitter of those who have played in double figure games. He’s hitting .308. RHS doesn’t report extra base hits or RBIs in most games.
