Pairings and the schedule for the 13th District Basketball Tournament have been announced. It will be held next week with all games at Todd County Central High School in Elkton.
The boys pairings were determined Friday when Todd Central’s boys concluded a sweep of the Russellville Panthers. The Rebels are the number two seed and the Panthers third.
The girls pairings were uncertain because RHS, Logan County and Todd Central all had 2-4 district records. F-S is a perfect 6-0. The seeding determination became more complicated because all three of the tied teams had split head-to-head contest with the other two.
The tiebreaker in this situation is the teams’ RPI as determined by the Kentucky High School Athletic Association. That method made the Lady Cougars (.53323 RPI) the second seed, Todd Central (.50624) third, and Russellville (.48789) fourth.
The Lady Panthers had a couple of chances to be the two seed. On Feb. 1, they were tied with Franklin in the final five seconds. They fouled late, and the Lady Cats ran a beautiful inbounds play to set up Jazmine Savage with the winning bucket. Five days later they led Todd Central inside the last minute of the game, but instead of protecting the lead, they took a couple of ill-advised shots and lost by two. Either win would have made them the number two seed, and now they open the tournament Monday against the Lady Cats.
