Logan teams to play in Class 2A regional semifinals Saturday

Mother Nature willing, Logan County’s diamond teams will both play in the regional semifinals of the Class 2A Tournament Saturday. They both won their tournament openers to reach this level.

As previously reported in a News Brief on The LoJo, Coach Gary Gettings’ Lady Cougars crushed Hart County 15-0 in the first round of the softball tournament.

Earlier this week, Coach Ethan Meguiar’s Cougars began the baseball regional by knocking off Allen County-Scottsville 8-3.

Senior Isaac Stanley was the winning pitcher, giving up only two hits and one earned run in five innings on the mound. He struck out seven and walked three Patriots. Jacob Regan pitched two scoreless innings in relief, allowing a hit and a walk while striking out one.

Davin Yates led the offense with three hits, including a double, scored two runs and drove in two. Montgomery Milam added two singles.

Getting one hit each were Brady Hinton, Dayman McLean, Chance Sweeney, Kade Wall and Samuel Hayes.

Sweeney scored two runs with Hinton, McLean, Wall and Hayes adding one each. Hayes was the only player besides Yates to be awarded an RBI. Sweeney, Wall and Harper Butler each walked twice.

The Cougars are scheduled to play host Warren Central at 10 a.m.. The winners will meet the Warren East vs. Franklin-Simpson winner for the championship at 2 p.m.

The girls tournament at Allen County has already been delayed until Saturday afternoon in hopes that an outfield which tends to hold water, according to Assistant Athletic Director Cameron Cook.

2:00  AC-S vs Logan County 

4:00  Franklin-Simpson vs Warren East

6:30 Championship Game
