CHEERLEADING - If you see a cheerleader or coach, wish them good luck and safe travels. They will be leaving Thursday morning for Disney World to compete in Nationals.
GIRLS BASKETBALL - The Lady Cougars are now 14-9 on the season after a tough stretch in their schedule. They beat Allen County 54-50 Saturday night. They are 3-2 in district play and will host Franklin -
BOYS BASKETBALL - The Cougars fell to Todd County Friday night in overtime. On Saturday night they played Allen County and went to yet another overtime, but were able to pull out the win. The Cougars now have a 11-11 record (3-2 district) and will wrap up district play this Friday night hosting Franklin-Simpson.
SWIMMING - The Cougars competed in the Regional Prelims and finals this past weekend. Here is Coach Hindman's recap of the event:
Senior Sarah Gill broke her own team record in the 200 Free with a time of 2:13.72, powering her way into 4th place heading into the finals. She was greeted by junior Maddie Burgess, who was sitting at 9th place.
After a tough Prelims swim in the 200 Freestyle relay on Friday, the Lady Cougars were sitting at 7th, and they came back with a vengeance on Saturday. The Girls Shattered their own team record by a staggering 4 seconds! The girls' relay was composed of Sarah Gill, Maddie Burgess, Leah Dukes, and Allie Crocker. This bumped them up to 5th overall. The future Lady Cougars now need to beat 1:56.63 in order to set a new team record in this event.
The same Relay team placed 7th overall in the 200 Medley Relay.
The entire Girls Regional team qualified for the second day of Regionals. Senior Sarah Gill (5th in the 200 Free, 7th in the 100 Back), Junior Maddie Burgess 10th in the 200 Free, 14th in the 100 Back), 8th Grader Leah Dukes (9th in the 100 Free and 16th in the 100 Back), and 7th Grader Allie Crocker (12th in the 100 Free).
Sophomore Aiden Dilliha (7th in the 100 Free, 9th in the 50 Free), Freshman Collin Dilliha (9th in the 200 Free, 10th in the 500 Free), 8th grader Neal Winchester (13th in the 100 Fly) were the men who qualified for the second day of Finals individually.
The Boys 200 Freestyle Relay came back to finals as a young band of men to watch. The young relay was composed of 8th Grader Layton Davenport, Sophomore Eli McGinnis, 8th Grader Brayden Spain, and Freshman Collin Dilliha. They made their stand and placed 12th overall.
The Boys 200 Medley relay started off the meet with a best time, only to continue the trend of shedding time in Finals. The relay was made up of 8th Grader Will McCarley, 8th Grader Neal Winchester, sophomore Aiden Dilliha, and 7th Grader Cooper Burgess.
The last event of the meet was the Boys 400 Freestyle Relay. The Boys made their final push for points, placing 6th overall. The relay was made of Freshman Collin Dilliha, 8th Grader Neal Winchester, 7th Grader Cooper Burgess, and sophomore Aiden Dilliha.
The Girls team placed 8th and the Boys team placed 11th, for a combined 9th place overall for the Cougars.
With Semi State looming around the corner, we await the results of Region 1 to know for sure who will qualify. But at this point, our odds are looking quite favorable.
ARCHERY - The archery team competed at Muhlenberg County this past weekend and finished 4th overall. They will be back in action this weekend at Warren East.
