Russellville High School has announced that the Panther baseball season will not be played this spring.
This is the explanation which appeared on Facebook Friday:
“It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the cancellation of this year's high school baseball season. Despite our best efforts, we find ourselves unable to field a team due to insufficient player numbers.
“We understand the disappointment this news may bring to players, families, RHS alumni, and fans alike. Unfortunately, the challenges posed by the current circumstances have made it impossible for us to proceed with the season.
“It will be our goal to continue developing a strong foundation of middle school and youth league players so that the RHS baseball program can proceed as normal in future seasons.”
The Panther roster reported to the Kentucky High School Athletic Association only lists 12 players. Nine of them are freshmen or younger.
On the other three rosters in the 13th District, 17 of the 22 players on the Franklin-Simpson list are juniors and seniors, 14 of the 20 on the Logan County roster are juniors and seniors with only one freshman, and 12 of Todd Central’s 23 Rebels are in the top two classes.
Russellville softball remains strong and very competitive.
