Not only did the Logan County Lady Cougars win their third game without a loss to start the season Saturday, but the 8-4 thumping of visiting Allen County-Scottsville got Coach Gary Gettings’ team off to a good start in Kentucky 2A sectional play.

Senior Emerson McKinnis homered, doubled and walked in her three plate appearances. She scored a run and drove in two. This was the second home run of the young season for the Murray State University softball signee.

Classmate and fellow college softball signee Nora Epley also had two hits and scored two runs.

Senior Trinity Case, who has a reputation of being a power hitter, also homered. She got three RBIs in the process.

Also recording hits were Keirsten Harper, Kinley Holloway, and Hailey Burgess. Courtesy runner Addison Holloway scored two runs while Harper and Burgess also crossed the plate. Sydni Blick drove in a run. Shayla Johnson worked the only other walk besides McKinnis’.

Johnson was the winning pitcher, going six innings and allowing the four runs on nine hits and three walks. Addison Cartas pitched a perfect seventh inning in relief.

Lady Cougars 13, Glasgow 2

The day before the Lady Cougars had crushed Glasgow 13-2 with Burgess starting and winning on the mound and Cartas getting another save. Burgess worked 4.2 innings; only one of the two runs charged to her was earned. Cartas worked 2.1 innings and didn’t give up a hit while walking one.

McKinnis homered and doubled in this game, too, and she added a single and a walk. She scored a run on the homer.

Not pitching, Johnson concentrated on hitting and got three of them. She added an RBI, a run scored, and a stolen base.

Kinley Holloway singled twice and drove in three runs. Case had a pair of hits and a walk while scoring twice. Epley singled for an RBI and scored. Caris Taylor singled, stole a base and scored. Blick walked twice and scored both times.

Runners did their job. Addison Holloway scored three times and Kallie Taylor twice.

The Lady Cougars will host Greenwood Tuesday at 5:30 and then go to Trigg County Thursday and Muhlenberg County Friday.
