Lady Panthers play beautifully to win regional opener

Getting both clutch hits and pitching, the Russellville Lady Panthers beat a good Clinton County team 9-6 in their opening game of the Fourth Region Tournament at WKU Monday.

Now Coach Ryan Davenport’s team will go against Barren County in tonight’s 7:30 semifinals.

The Penrod sisters played big roles in the Memorial Day win. Senior Matt Matt Penrod doubled and scored in the first inning, drove in a run in the third, and homered in the fifth. Sophomore Red Penrod was the starting pitcher, doubled in two runs in the fifth, and then hit another two-run double in the top of the seventh to give the Lady Panthers the lead for keeps.  She had four RBIs on the night.

KK Davenport singled in e younger Penrod with the ninth run. Ray Ray Roberts Seventh grader Lexie Tripplett joined the Penrods with two hits each. Ray Ray Roberts had an RBI single.

Eighth grader Rylee Grayson got the win in relief, giving up only two hits, a walk and two runs in four and two-thirds innings.

The Lady Panthers improved their record to 24-14. Clinton County fell to 27-10.

The Barren County team RHS plays tonight is 25-11. The Trojanettes beat highly regarded Greenwood 9-4 Monday. In their only meeting with the Lady Panthers this year, Barren won 16-3 two weeks ago.
