Cougars to open district play at tough Todd today

The Logan County Soccer Cougars will take their 2-1 record to Elkton this afternoon in an important early district showdown.

Coach Trevar Gray did not report who scored the goals in the team’s opening match, but he told the KHSAA that freshman James Bryan was the goalkeeper as the Cougars shut out Monroe County 6-0 to start the season. He was credited with seven saves.

Bryan added 14 saves in a 4-1 loss to Hopkinsville. Junior Kaden Sells scored the lone Cougar goal.

The Cougars bounced back Tuesday with a 4-1 win over visiting Allen County-Scottsville. No statistics have been released.

Todd Central is off to a great start. Coach Mike Smith’s team is 4-0. Including two lopsided shutouts. After opening with a 5-4 nailbiter, the Rebels outscored Muhlenberg County and Lyon County by a combined score of 13-0. They Saturday, they edged always-tough Paducah Tilghman 2-1 on the road.

Todd is led on offense by Tanner Chapman, who has scored 10 goals and added 5 assists. John Ross Cardwell has totaled 5 goal and 3 assists, but Chris Salazar is the assist leader with 7,

Goalkeeper John Mark Campbell has allowed only 5 goals while recording 19 saves during shots on goal.

Today’s match is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at the Todd County Board of Education field.
