Panthers beat Butler for first win

The Russellville Panthers won 58-48 at Butler County Saturday, fighting off a late-charge by the Bears. Coach Dennis Pardue’s team went 8-of-8 at the free throw line in the final minute-and-a-half.
Derion Calloway led RHS with 17 points, hitting 5 of 7 free throws. Davis Pardue, who scored 20 points in a season-opening loss to Muhlenberg County, added 11 points by hitting all six of his foul shots. Josh Hampton got four of his six points on free throws as the Panthers went 19 of 24 at the line.
Zach Hines came close to a double-double, getting 10 points and 9 rebounds. The Panthers pulled down 49 rebounds, as compared to the Bears’ 40. Calloway, Darrion Quarles had five rebounds, while Jordan Kenney and Hampton each added four.
Also scoring were Quarles with four points and Barrett Croslin, Christian Naylor, Dominoique and Kennedy with two each.
Russellville hit 35.8 percent from the field (19 of 53), including just 1 of 10 from 3-point range. Butler County went 16 of 55 (29.1 percent, including 4 of 25 from long range. Russellville committed 21 turnovers, five more than the home team.
Trevor Jenkins and Lucas Bratcher each scored 12 points for Coach Greg Woodcock’s Bears. Jenkins blocked three shots. Elijah Flener scored 9, Jackson Washer 7, Zeke Woodcock 6 and Dylan Goodall 2 for the Bears.
