Integral part of LCHS baseball history, Meguiar compiling records

Having been the head coach of Logan County baseball in more than half of its existence and a player five more of those years, Ethan Meguiar has been an integral part of Cougar baseball for 22 of its 30 seasons. He was a starter four years, including being the second baseman on the Cougar team which won the region and a game at substate in 1989, and coach of what may have been its best LCHS team ever in the 2000 regional finalist squad.

Meguiar, who has coached 493 games for the Cougars, will record his 300th win this season. His teams are currently 289-204 and have been to region in 13 of his 16 seasons, six times as champions.

So, it’s natural that he is keenly aware of its history. And it’s fitting that he is the one who is working to compile a record of its history.

The Auburn native, whose cousin, Eric Meguiar, was a member of the first LCHS team 30 years ago this spring, has been working for a couple of years in trying to record the won-lost mark of each team, its postseason accomplishments, and the names of the head coach and the seniors. He has that complete for most of the seasons, although there are a few holes he hopes to get filled. He also has put together a list of the 39 alumni who have played college baseball, including 14 at Lindsey Wilson, 8 at Brescia and 6 at Campbellsville.

“I know there are some players that we probably don't have. Even if they did not play as a senior, I would like to have them, if they played varsity at some point, listed with their senior class,” he says. “I would really like to get a total win loss record and a complete postseason record.” The Cougars are known to have won at least 16 district championships in those 30 years.

Coach Meguiar has accumulated email addresses and phone number for many of the players. “Hopefully we’ll compile a distribution list with the emails and be able to send out quarterly stuff on Cougar Baseball, maybe even establish an alumni association of some kind. I would also like to use this to establish some individual records that i may not know of,” he says.

“We do have a Logan County Cougar Baseball Facebook page that has pictures of almost all the teams and many of the kids who played in college, along with lots of other cool stuff. It is a big project but if I could get some help from some others, maybe we could finish it up.”
