The Logan County Cougars finished in a tie for second among six teams in the South Warren All Comers meet Tuesday. Justin Rone won two events and finished second in another. Als0 getting individual firsts were Colton Spencer, Sye Head, Michael Sydnor and Levi Crossley while Dylan Cole finished second among 42 runners in the 200/
Among the Lady Cougars, Jasmine Martin and Hayoey Mayher each recorded a first and a second.
“I am tickled to death with some great performances.,” says Coach Greg Howard. “We were without Seniors Noah Thomas (foot), Tyler and Matt Wood (family) and stilled battled it out with Class AAA teams to end up in a tie for second. We tried some people at new positions and looking to solidify were we are in some events as we move into the season looking to battle it out for a Region I AA Championship.
Howard is being assisted this season by Coach Lee Proctor, who was known for his quickness as the first outstanding running back in the early days of Cougar football.
“The score doesn’t say enough about so many great things that happened with our team,” Howard continued.” Hayley Mayher won the discus, but the thing that impressed me the most was her coaching her “cubs” (elementary/middle school runners paired up with a high school “cougar”) as they competed in their events. Says a lot about who we are when you see our high school runners cheering on not only their high school teammates but also their younger peers that want to grow up and be just like the older ones! It never ceases to amaze me, not just the wonderful effort they put forth in meets and practices, but the compassion and pride they have. Another wonderful day in the track world as Coach Proctor and I get to witness greatness from our Logan County kids! We truly are blessed!”
