Auburn Baseball is fielding a pair of 8 and Under machine pitch teams which are performing well in tournament action. At the Butler County Tournament last week, one of the teams won the championship and another finished third.
Auburn Gold won the tournament impressively, going 5-0 and beating Ohio County 17-7 in the championship game. Players are Caleb McCoy, Jacob Brandon, Corbin Rayno, Conner Binkley, Chance Sweeney, Tanner Robinson, Kade Wall, Clifton Faughn, Dylan Steenburgen, Landyn Gorrell and Wyatt Blake. They are coached by Jeff Robinson, Kyle Wall and Mike Sweeney.
Corbin Rayno was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Gold’s win in the semifinals came by a 13-7 score against familiar foes, Auburn White. Gold team members are Jayden Blick, Peyton Taylor, Isaac Stanley, Cray Fite, Davin Yates, Josh Robertson, Conner Covington, Malachi Humble, Braden Engler, Holden Stratton, Ethan Dukes and Jacob Campbell. Coaches are Brian Stanley, Troy Engler and Tripp Covington.
Auburn White beat Greenville 12-11 and Allen County A 14-8 in pool play. Then came a 17-12 slugfest victory over Beechmont before the loss to Auburn Gold. “This is a fine group of boys with great attitudes,” Coach Stanley says. “We're not all about winning, but we play hard, have fun, and just keep learning.”
Both teams are now playing in the Bremen Tournament at Central City. Auburn White beat Beechmont 13-7 and Greenville 17-14, both on Monday to run their postseason record to 5-1 so far this summer. The two wins made them the number one seed overall, and they will play host Bremen at 6 p.m. Thursday in the single-elimination tournament.
Auburn Gold also won both its games and plays again Thursday.
