Junior Ben Wright hit a 3-point goal to send the game into a second overtime and then dropped in two free throws with 5.2 seconds to seal an 83-80 win by the Logan County Cougars over visiting Allen County-Scottsville.
Wright finished with 29 points and 10 rebounds. According to Ben Brown of WRUS, 13 of his points came in the overtimes. Senior swingman J.R. Morrow had the best game of his career so far with 14 points, 10 rebounds, 4 each of assists and steals, and 3 blocked shots. Senior guard Landon Stratton, who was feared lost for the season four nights earlier with a knee injury, scored 20 points. Junior post player Taylor Blakemore had 9 points, 10 rebounds and an eye-popping 7 assists. Sophomore point guard Garrison Rosser added 7 points and 4 assists.
Blakemore missed his first five free throws but hit what proved to be the winning point with 7.1 seconds.
Most of the AC-S offense came from two players. Jared Walden went 6 of 17 from 3-point range and finished with 30 points. He missed a 3-pointer with 8 seconds remaining in the second OT with Logan leading 80-79 on a pair of free throws by Stratton. Junior center Dyllan Harper had 23 points, 20 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 each of steals and blocked shots.
Preston Clarke, son of former Russellville standout Jordan Clarke, hit an important shot for Coach James Willett’s Patriots.
AC-S jacked up 35 attempts from 3-point range, hitting just 10. The Patriots were 18 of 42 from 2-point range. Logan was 3 of 9 from long range but hit over 50 percent from inside the arc at 27 of 52. The Cougars hit 20 of 34 free throws, AC-S 14 of 24. Stratton was 7 of 8 at the line.
Blakemore played 37 minutes, Morrow and Wright 35 each, Rosser 34 and Stratton 33. Tucker Baldwin and Kaleb Coursey gave the Cougars some good double-figure minutes off the bench. Walden played 39 minutes, Evan Day 37, James Sikes 31, and Cameron Cook and Harper 29 each for the Patriots.
