The Logan County Lady Cougars picked up their first win of the season last Saturday by beating Owensboro Senior 6-3. The Cougars lost 6-3 to Owensboro and Apollo, and the girls also fell 7-2 t0 Apollo in a full day of tennis.
After Apollo forfeited number one and two matches to Katelyn Jones and Chandler Larson, Grace McLellan of Logan beat Addy Stout of Senior High8-4 at number six. In doubles, Mason Gregory and Alexandra Slaton of LCHS won 8-6 over Sammie Burlow and Delaney Hayden at number one.
The Lady Cougars swept doubles with Maeson Hayes and McLellan beating Brooke Bedingfield and Addy Stout 9-7 and Abby Arnold and Shelby Blythe winning number three 8-5 over Cammillie Armstrong and Mary Kate Lanz.
Jones won number one against Apollo, beating Taylor Wathen 8-6. The number three doubles team of Kelsey Coleman and Larson beat Jenna Payne-Kamira Riley 8-6.
Ashley Brinkley, Laura Hendricks, Camden Williams and Sydney Mimms also played for Coach Dan Duncan’s Lady Cougars.
Duncan also coaches the boys team. Getting the Cougar wins against Apollo were Adam Wilkins (8-4 over Ben Duncan) at number three singles and the number two doubles team of Joe McGinnis and J.R. Morrow, 8-6 over Jarred Boswell and Langston Fenwick.
Winning in singles against Senior High were Matthew Walker (6-2 over Chase Shacklett) at number one and Will Hughes, (6-2 over Paxton Harmon) at number two. The number one doubles team of Logan Johnson and Wilkins, 6-0, 7-6 over Harmon and Shacklett.
Also playing for the Cougars were Trey McGinnis, Zach Binkley, Erik Williams and Josh Camp.
Walker was the only Logan winner in the season opener against Greenwood. He beat the Gators’ Chris Agro 6-2, 6-4.
