The Logan County varsity boys and girls track teams traveled to Muhlenberg County for their invitational Friday night. “It was a great night for a meet after the lightning finally moved out,” says Coach Greg Howard. “In what has been a boy dominated team over the past several years, the girls have definitely taken off. They are a very young and talented group and if they hang together I see the chance for some new school records and some possible state champion material. I haven’t been able to say that in a while.
“Great times were turned in by the Vanzant twins (Paige, Peyton), Meredith Johnson, and Bree Baptiste. Anjali Evans, Leah Crossley and Deja Thompson have been pleasant additions and have put points on the board for us. I’m proud to say that for the first time in a long time our girls program is back on track”
Johnson, Evans and Crossley are eighth graders and the Vanzants are sixth graders. Several other middle schoolers are on the junior varsity team. See their story at
Howard says the boys team may not be as deep as in the past but they are continuing to put the pieces together: “Several runners are on the verge of taking off and I can’t wait to see that day happen. The guys have a great deal of potential, and hard work will help them reach that. Seniors Kaleb O’Dell and Michael Sydnor and Juniors Levi Crossley and Kelly Eicher continue to lead the way. Our teams are not deep enough to score a lot of points but we will be very competitive in the events we compete in.”
