The Logan County Lady Cougars sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 13 runs in the third inning as Coach Michael Crawford’s team won 19-5 in a district game at Russellville.
In that inning, Maddie Abbott walked, singled and scored twice; fellow senior Victoria Cates singled, reached on an error and scored two runs; Shelby Milam singled twice and scored both times; Macy Meacham reached on an error, doubled and scored; and Meagan Ferguson, Brea Croslin, Sierra Morrow and Reagan Cole all singled and scored. Cates had a big day, pitching the win and going four for five at the plate with three RBIs and two runs. She reached on an error in her fifth at bat. She gave up the five runs on eight hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Senior Shelby Milam totaled three each of hits and RBIs and scored twice. She also walked.
Getting two hits each were sixth grader Croslin and freshman Meacham, both of whom started for RHS last year as middle schoolers. Joining them with two hits each were Abbott and Morrow.
Abbott scored four runs, Croslin three, and Ferguson, Morrow, Cates, Milam and Cierra Johnson two each. Meacham was on base five times with two walks and a reached on an error. Cates doubled twice with Meacham and Abbott each getting a two-bagger.
Coach Brandy Trimble’s Lady Panthers scored two runs in the first inning. Malynn Ray walked, Tara Gilbert singled and Shea Hampton drove them both in. RHS got a run in the fourth inning when Cierra Collins singled and scored on Gilbert’s RBI double.
The bottom of the order picked up a pair of runs in the fifth when Johnea Pendleton reached on an error, Tiffany Gray singled with two outs, and Collins singled them in.
Collins and Gilbert each got two hits, with Gilbert doubling. Hampton, Pendleton, Allison McDaniel and Gray added hits. Hampton had the two RBIs with Collins, Gilbert and Gray each getting one. Collins, Ray, Gilbert, Pendleton and Gray scored the runs. Ray, Taylor Gray and Hampton worked the only three walks Cates issued. Gilbert and Pendleton reached on errors with Gilbert and Ray stealing bases.
Gilbert took the loss on the mound. Only three of the runs were earned. A total of 68 of her 103 pitches were strikes.
