WKU will host the WKU/Kenny Perry Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at The Club at Oldestone, welcoming 11 collegiate teams from across the region to Bowling Green for the 54-hole event.
"We are very excited to be hosting the WKU/Kenny Perry Invitational this week," said head coach Phillip Hatchett. "We are very lucky to have an elite course in Bowling Green like The Club at Olde Stone that will provide a great challenge to the 12 teams participating in the event. We have attracted some outstanding teams from around the region and are look forward to hosting them here in Bowling Green this week for our event."
The par 72, 7,100 yard course will welcome the teams on Monday morning with a 7:30 a.m. tee time for the first and second rounds, 36 holes in all. All 12 teams will begin on Tuesday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start for the final 18 holes.
Live scoring for the event will be available via Birdie Fire. It is the second playing of the event, which began in 2012 before taking a hiatus in 2013. WKU finished 5th in the 12 team field in 2012.
The Hilltoppers will send Cameron Beal, Austin King, Conor Griffiths, Trey Aguirre and Brandon Beckham into the tournament on their five-man card. Beckham, a junior from Smiths Grove, is coming off a 10th place finish at the Firestone Invitational a week ago. The Hilltoppers have tallied a pair of top-10 finishes so far this fall.
Kenny Perry, the event's namesake, was a WKU men's golf letterwinner from 1979-1982 before turning pro in 1982. During his illustrious professional career, Perry has tallied 14 PGA Tour wins and seven Champions Tour wins. He was named the 2013 Champions Tour Player of the Year and is a 1994 Hall of Fame inductee into the WKU Hall of Fame.
Phillip Hatchett is a graduate of Russellville High School and was a teammate of Perry’s at WKU. He played professional golf on international circuits for several years and is known as one of Kentucky’s best teaching pro. He is Western Kentucky University’s first full-time golf coach.
