Basketball season is upon us, as evidenced by the Middle School Jamboree scheduled to take place this Saturday at Logan County High School, hosted by Cougar and Lady Cougar basketball.
Twenty-two teams from 11 schools will participate in 12 games, beginning at 8 a.m. and ending sometime around 8 p.m.
Those involved are the five schools in the Logan County system, the four middle schools in the Warren County system, Russellville and Todd Central.
Lewisburg is the school playing twice. Coach Jerald Tabb’s Lewisburg girls and boys will play Warren East from 10 a.m.-noon, and Todd County from 4-6 p.m. Brian White and Chris Pyles also help coach the teams.
Coach Todd Gill’s Olmstead Rams get things started at 8 a.m. against Moss, the feeder school for Warren Central. Then Coach Daniel Alvis’ perennial champion Lady Rams will play the Moss girls at 9.
After the Lewisburg-East matchups (the girls play first), Coach Stanley Fleming’s Lady Bears of Chandlers will go against coaches Kaylee Crowder & T.C. Carrecker’sLady Panthers of Russellville. Then Coach Adam Decker’s Bears will face the Russellville Panthers, coached by Pete Ries. Those games begin at noon for the girls and 1 p.m. for the boys.
Auburn plays the next two games against South Warren. After 14 years coach both the boys and the girls, Coach Josh Hall is now coaching only the boys. Before his Tigers take the floor, new coach Gary Campbell will direct the fortunes of the Lady Tigers again the Lady Spartans.
Lewisburg is back on the floor against Todd starting at 4 p.m. with the girls playing first.
The final two games will match Adairville against Drakes Creek. Jamie Neal is the A’town coach. Drakes Creek is the feeder school for Greenwood High School.
Admission to the tournament is $3. Concessions will be available.
Games will consist of four nine-minute quarters. The clock will not stop except for the last minute of each half, provided the deficit is less than 10 points. Halftime will be five minutes. The scoreboard will be cleared at the end of each quarter.
The five schools in the Logan County system will be the home teams. Only a five-minute warm-up will be allowed between games to keep things moving.
“There is no cost for the teams to participate as this is a scrimmage, and we hope that each school gains some game type experience before the start of the season,” say LCHS varsity coaches Finley Woodard and Lonnie Mason.
