Lady Patriots beat BGH for regional girls title

The Allen County-Scottsville Lady Patriots are the 2015 Region 4 basketball champions. AC-S defeated Bowling Green 58-39 Sunday afternoon at E.A. Diddle Arena to claim the program’s first regional championship since 2001. The win over Bowling Green came after a 52-45 semifinal win over South Warren last Saturday and a 62-39 victory over Franklin-Simpson in the quarterfinals.

Seniors Morgan Rich and Holly Robinson led the way against Bowling Green. Rich scored 19 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Robinson scored 19 points and had four rebounds in the win. In semifinal action, Rich led all scorers with 27 points while junior Savannah Gregory added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Robinson paced AC-S with 22 points against Franklin-Simpson.

In Sunday’s championship game, the Lady Patriots built a 19-6 lead after the first quarter. Led by Robinson’s 19 first half points, AC-S led 43-19 at halftime. The Lady Patriots were ahead 51-27 after the third period and coasted to the 19-point win.

Rich, Robinson, and Gregory were named to the All-Tournament team following the game. Other players selected to the team include Brooke Barnes (Logan County), Elli Bartley (Glasgow), Kaitlyn Coffey (Russell County), Caroline Cowles (South Warren), Bree Glover (Glasgow), Maegann Hardison (Logan County), Amaya Lasley (South Warren), Markizjah Mimms (Bowling Green), Keely Morrow (Franklin-Simpson), TaMir Patterson (South Warren), Oneisha Turner (Bowling Green), Keely Vincent (Bowling Green) and Kayla Waid (Cumberland County).

AC-S (27-4) will meet Region 11 champion Franklin County (26-6) at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at E.A. Diddle Arena in the opening round of the Houchens Industries/KHSAA Girls Sweet Sixteen state tournament. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 13.
