An impressive two-way performance from Tara Gilbert led the Russellville Lady Panthers to a 7-3 win Monday over Metcalfe County, as Gilbert came up huge at the dish and on the rubber.
It was the seventh straight win for Coach Brandy Trimble’s team.
Gilbert racked up five RBIs on three hits for Russellville. She homered in the third inning and tripled in the first and fourth innings.
Gilbert was a workhorse in the circle while bagging the win for the Lady Panthers. She pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, eight hits and one walk while striking out five.
The top of the first saw Metcalfe County take an early lead 2-0. The Lady Hornets got things going when Kelsey White singled. A single by Kennedy Harbison then moved White from first to second. Coleman singled, plating White. Metcalfe County pushed another run across when Kennedy Harbison scored on an error.
The Lady Panthers survived Metcalfe County's surge and put up three runs of their own in the first. They scored on a two-run triple by Gilbert and an error. Scoring ahead of her were Malynn Ray and Cierra Collins, who had each singled. Gilbert then scored when Rachel Fisher reached on an error.
The game's last lead went to the Russellville in the third inning on a solo home run by Gilbert.
The Lady Panthers increased their lead with three runs in the fourth. Gilbert kicked things off with a triple, plating Tonisha Hampton and Malynn Ray. Hampton, the number nine hitter, singled before Ray doubled and Hampton tripled.
Tiffany Gray, Collins and Ray each had two hits with Johnea Pendleton and Madison Keezel adding one each.
White, Harbison and Coleman each had two hits, and White scored two of the runs for Coach Peter DiStefano’s Lady Hornets.
Trigg County 5, Lady Panthers 1
The win streak ended Tuesday when visiting Trigg County won 5-1.
The lone run of the game for the Russellville Lady Panthers crossed the plate in the second inning on an RBI single by Allison McDaniel. Pendleton reached on an error and scored on McDaniel’s hit. Gray immediately got another hit, but she and McDaniel were stranded.
The only other hit came in the final inning when Hampton led off with a single, but the game ended when she was doubled off base.
Gilbert and Rachel Fisher walked in the game, but were left on base.
Trigg County went up for good in the second, scoring three runs on an RBI double by Logan Darnell and a two-run error. Emily Crowe had three hits and Autumn Durham two. Allison Russell pitched the win for Coach Toree Rogers’ Lady Wildcats.
