Behind the pitching of Caleb Bruner, timely hitting and errorless defense, the Logan County Cougars beat Warren Central 4-0 at LCHS Tuesday, as the teams were able to find time between rain storms to play baseball.
Bruner, who will be playing near Central next year as a WKU Hilltopper, went the distance on a 1-hit, no-walk shutout while striking out 16 in the 21 outs. All but four of the batters he faced had a strike on them after one pitch. Of the 101 pitches he threw, 69 were strikes.
Hunter Britt and Tucker Baldwin each got two hits, Jackson Campbell and Daniel Beaty doubled, and Luke Woodall, Matt Harper and Bradley Taylor each singled in the 9-hit attack. Taylor and Woodall were credited with RBIs. Michael Riley who walked twice, scored a run, Beaty walked twice and was on base three times. He also scored, as did Britt and Nick Wooden. Woodall picked up the other walk. He was also hit by a pitch, as was Harper.
Johnson got the Dragons’ only hit, and that came in the seventh inning. Glover was hit by a pitch.
Lyle took the loss as the Central pitcher. Johnson faced nine Cougars in relief before getting the final four outs.
The win ran Coach Ethan Meguiar’s team’s record to 9-2.
