Logan County’s track teams made excellent showings in the Hopkinsville Invitational Saturday. The Lady Cougars finished third as a team and the Cougars fourth. Both were in competition with 11 other teams.
Additionally, Logan teams won four relay events and finished in the top tfour individually in eight events.
Greg Howard, who coaches both teams, offers the following observations:
“Usually at this stage of the season, our teams are well into the fine-tuning part of our technique and the finishing touches of our events. Like I said, usually, but with so many first time runners, we are actually still teaching the basics. Even with that, our kids have made tremendous progress, which showed Saturday in their performances. Once they get the actual skills under control, their potential will be unlimited.
“Our girls have continued to raise the bar as they improve by leaps and bounds. The 4 X 400M Relay broke their own school record again, this time by 5 seconds by recording a time of 4:24.44. The team of Meredith Johnson, Bre Baptiste, Abbi Lindsey, and Taleia Mason are warriors who refuse to let down. The competition was great and gave us a barometer to measure where we are, when it comes to better competition.
“I believe this with all my heart… our kids are great and they want to be better. They have bought in to all the little things; for that I’m proud as a coach! Applying the small things in life…..as a man, I am even more proud.
“Coach Joe Brockman continues to push our throwers to even greater heights. Coach Brockman takes so much pride in his teaching, and the results are there in black and white…great job by him and his throwers on their progress.
“We set our expectations high and expect all of our athletes to meet them. It never ceases to amaze me how much improvement I see in these kids and how proud they are of their accomplishments. Thanks again to the wonderful parents that provide for these great kids (snacks, shoes, rides, and showing up at meets)! “GO COUGARS!”
