Logan County High School girls basketball is offering a skills development camp for girls in grades 2-12 that will focus on several aspects of the game, such as passing, shooting, ball-handling and teamwork fundamentals. It will also include offensive and defensive work, as well as rebounding concepts.
The camp will be held June 4-5, at the high school three hours per day, from 9 a.m. until noon. The fee is $45 per camper.
“The person I have coming to do the camp is Quentin Hollis,” says Coach Finley Baird. “He is a former professional basketball player for the Chinese Basketball Association and the Chinese Men’s Basketball Association. He served as a counselor, coach and coordinator for nine years for NBA legend Ervin ‘Magic’ Johnson in Los Angeles. He has also served as a coach at NBA Hall of Fame coach Pat Riley’s Basketball Camp.”
Hollis played collegiately for former University star Butch Beard, who won a Kentucky high school state championship and an NBA title.
He will provide each player with fundamental basketball skill developmental drills. These skills include proper passing techniques, shooting fundamentals such as: form, jump shooting, catch and shoot, shooting off the dribble and more. Ball handling drills, lay-up basics and advance practices, as well as teamwork fundamentals including: pick and roll, pick and pop, give and go, and working to get open will also be included. He will also work on defensive stance, footwork and form, rebounding concepts and half-court and full-court offensive and defensive basics.
