Logan County won both games of a district doubleheader at home Friday, but they did it in different fashions. The Lady Cougars dodged a bullet in edging Todd Central 36-32. The Cougars led by nine after a quarter, 14 at the half, and 24 after three quarters on the way to a 72-52 win.

Coach Steven McGhee’s Lady Rebels put up a determined effort. They took the lead at 30-29 late in the third quarter on Alecia Salazaar’s 3-pointer, but Todd managed only two points in the final nine minutes.

Logan had an horrific night at the foul line, hitting just 8 of 23 free throws. In the last 37 seconds Taleia Mason and Brooke Barnes each missed the front ends of bonus situations and Cierra Johnson missed two straight free throws. Jessica Hines missed the first of two free throws—the seventh possible point at the line let slip away,

A 3-point attempt by Lady Rebel Natalie Groves went in and rimmed out with 16 seconds left in the game. Then Hines’ free throw in the final 10 seconds clinched the win. The Lady Cougars lost their floor leader, Torrie Pollard, to fouls but held on for the win.

Mason scored 11, Pollardand Hines 8 each, and Barnes 7 for the winners. Rachel Barnett had 9 rebounds, Hines 8 and Barnes 7.

Coach Finley Baird’s Lady Cougars ran their record to 12-3 overall and 3-0 in the district. Todd Central fell to 7-8 overall and 0-2 in the district with both losses coming at the hands of Logan. The Lady Cougars’ win was their seventh straight and their 10th in 11 games.

Four Cougars scored in double figures. Lorenzo Garcia totaled 19, Noah Whittinghill and Mykal Hampton 14 each, and Austin Rayno 11. Coach Lonnie Mason’s team hit 10 of 12 free throws.

Nine Cougars scored and 10 rebounded as the Cougar reserves played most of the fourth quarter. Whittinghill added three team highs with 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.

Thirteen players scored for the Rebels, led by Jeremiah Sims with nine.

The Rebels have a young team, including starting center Jon Calvary and point guard Clayte Weathers, both freshmen.

The Cougars are 6-8 and the Rebels 0-14. Logan is 2-2 in the district.
