When the Logan County Lady Cougars won 60-42 in a game that was decided by the end of the third quarter, it appeared Coach Finley Baird’s team was back to its winning ways. This came on the heels of back-to-back losses to Russellville and Glasgow the previous weekend.

Since then, however, the Lady Cougars have lost two more games—falling to Grayson County 61-46 Saturday at the Sportscenter in Owensboro and then 59-51 at South Warren Tuesday.

After winning 12 of 13 games between Dec. 18 and Feb. 8, Logan has now dropped four of its last five starts and slipped from 17-4 to 18-8.

By beating Franklin, Logan sealed the top seed in the 13th District Tournament next week. The district opponent will be Todd Central, which has a 9-16 record.

In that win, Torrie Pollard scored 18 points, Rachel Barnett 12, Taleia Mason 11, Jessica Hines 9 and Cierra Johnson 6. Brooke Barnes, who had sat out the Glasgow game because of an injured ankle, was not at full speed but did have 5 rebounds and 4 blocks. Pollard added 3 each of assists and steals while being credited with 7 deflections. Barnett had 8 rebounds while Mason had 3 each of rebounds, assists and deflections. Johnson added 5 assists.

In the lopsided loss to Grayson County, Pollard scored 14 and Johnson 10. Pollard also had 4 each of rebounds and assists and 2 each of steals and deflections while Johnson had 4 rebounds and 3 steals before fouling out. Mason scored 6 points while totaling 4 rebounds, and 3 each of assists and steals. Barnes had 8 points and a team-high 5 rebounds.

Four Lady Cougars are averaging double figure scoring for the season, and they kept that going against South Warren. Pollard scored 17, Mason 12, and Barnes and Barnett 11 each. Barnes returned to her double-double ways with 11 rebounds to match the 11 points. Pollard had 4 assists and 7 deflections before fouling out.

A dozen of the 15 Lady Cougars on the varsity have played in at least 11 games. Also having played at least 20 games besides the senior starters are Hines, Ann-Meguiar Bouldin, Abbi Lindsey and Logan Williamson. Also having accumulated statistics for the two-time defending district champions are Blayke Bingham, Sarah Beth Hale, Karrah Cron, Jamica Key, Brittany Garrett and Carlie Alvis.

The Lady Cougars and Cougars will celebrate Senior Night Thursday against Greenwood at home.
