By the luck of two draws, a third Clash of the Cats has been set up in boys basketball. The Russellville Panthers and Logan County Cougars will play at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 23 in the 13th District Tournament, which will be held at LCHS.

Russellville and Franklin-Simpson had tied for the top seed with 5-1 district records while Logan and Todd Central were tied for third with 1-5 records. Both tied sets of teams had split their regular season encounters with each other. The draw gave F-S the top seed and the Cougars the third seed. Since seeds two and three play each other, it's the Panthers versus the Cougars one more time.

The girls teams from the Land of Logan are in separate brackets. The Russellville Lady Panthers will open the tournament at 6 p.m. Monday against top-seeded Franklin-Simpson. Then at the same time the next night, the second seeded Lady Cougars will be challenged by Todd Central.

The championship games will be staged on Thursday and Friday. The boys finals will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, and the girls clash will follow on Friday at 7.

During regular season boys action, Russellville beat Logan 65-64 on a late 3-pointer by senior Trevor Clark on the LCHS floor. Then 25 days later, the Panthers won with ease, 77-54. Through a strange twist of scheduling and weather postponements, Franklin-Simpson whipped Todd on consecutive nights the first weekend in February by scores of 56-31 and 75-43. The only district losses for the Panthers and the Wildcats have been against each other. RHS won big, F-S by two.

The Lady Cats are 6-0 in district competition. Coach Lex Lindsey's perennial powerhouse has beaten Logan County by 17 and 21 points, Russellville by 31 and 16, and Todd Central by 18 and 21, also on those consecutive nights last weekend. The Lady Cougars edged Todd 56-54 the first time they played and then by 15 on Jan. 15.

Tournament tickets are $5 per person. The doors will open 45 minutes before the first game nightly.

Survivors of opening round games will move on to the regional tournaments in Bowling Green the first week in March.
