The Logan County Lady Cougars have turned their softball season around, winning six straight games by a combined score of 51-9. In the process, they avenged two earlier losses to Allen County-Scottsville and Butler County, swept a doubleheader with Metcalfe County, and romped over Warren Central again while also recording an important win over district and crosstown Russellville.
Coach Brandy Trimble’s young team has risen from 6-8 to 12-8 in the process.
Lady Cougars 19, Warren Central 3
Logan sent 17 batters to the plate and scored 13 runs in the first inning. Kaylin Page reached on an error to start the inning. After an out, Brea Croslin and Kennedy Nichols each singled, and Abby Canler walked. After a second out, Jillian McLellan reached on an error, and Rosie Kerchenski cleared that bases on a triple. Presley Harris and Page singled, Torrie Pollard and Croslin each walked, Nichols got her second hit of the inning, Canler walked for the second time in the inning, Sydney Lee doubled and McLellan singled. Page, Croslin, Canler and courtesy runner Sarah Beth Hale all scored two runs in the inning.
Page did her job as leadoff hitter, getting on base all four times she came to the plate. So did Croslin. They both scored three runs. Nichols and Canler were on three times each. Page. Croslin, Hale and Canler scored three runs each with Kerchenski and Harris both scoring twice.
Lee pitched the four-inning game, giving up three hits and a walk. Two of the hits were home runs by Jeyda Bays. Jordan Strode got the only other hit Lee allowed. Lee also showed her power on offense, stroking two doubles for four RBIs.
Lady Cougars 7, Butler County 2
Lee also stood out on both offense and defense in this one. She had three hits, including a triple and a double. She also pitched the win, allowing no earned runs on four hits and a single walk in seven innings.
Logan scored a run in the first on back-to-back doubles by Croslin and Kennedy In the second, Canler reached on an error, advanced on Kerchenski’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Page’s single. Page went to second on the throw and scored on Pollard’s hit.
In the fifth, McLellan and Lee each singled. After two outs, Kerchenski reached on an error, scoring McLellan. Page then doubled in courtesy runner Blayke Bingham; it was her third hit of the game.
Doubles by Kennedy and Lee produced the final run. Nichols doubled twice in the game
Cheyenne White got two of the Lady Bears’ hits. Carlie Cardwell doubled and Olivia Jones singled.
Lady Cougars 4, AC-S 1
Allen County’s first batter, Kalee Skaggs, scored as she, Taylor Stamps and Rylee Whitney started the Lady Patriot offense with three straight hits. But Logan pitcher Abby Hinton allowed only three more hits and no walks the rest of the way for the win.
The Lady Cougars also scored in the first when Pollard singled and came home on Croslin’s double.
The winning runs came home in the sixth. Croslin and Nichols singled, and McMillan doubled in Croslin and Bingham.
Kerchenski scored an insurance run when she and Page led off the seventh by reaching on consecutive errors. Croslin got her third hit, driving in Kerchenski.
In addition to Croslin’s trifecta, Pollard and Nichols each had two hits.
Neither Hinton nor Lady Patriot pitcher Kriss Anne Pardue gave up a walk. A dominating 55 of Hinton’s 78 pitches were strikes. Pardue had to throw 103 pitches, getting strikes on 75 of them.
Lady Cougars 4, Metcalfe County 0
Lee pitched the shutout on a three-hitter; she also walked three. Coleman took the loss, allowing the four runs on seven hits and no walks. Only one of the runs was earned.
Pollard, Croslin and Lee each had two hits. Pollard tripled and Croslin doubled. Page had the seventh hit. Page, Pollard, McLellan and Lee each scored a run. Once again, no Lady Cougar walked.
Harbison had two of the Hornets’ hits with Tucker getting the other.
Lady Cougars 5, Metcalfe County 2
Hinton pitched this win in the twinbill sweep. She gave up two runs on five hits while walking one. Teammates made three errors behind her.
On offense, Page had two hits, including a double. Pollard also collected two hits and Nichols doubled. Croslin, Lee and Canler also got a hit. Page and Pollard each drove in two runs.
In the first inning, Page led off with a double and Pollard singled her in. With two outs in the second, Kerchenski reached on a fielder’s choice, Harris walked, and Page and Pollard singled.
Kerchenski reached on an error to start the fourth, stole second, moved to third on Harris’ grounder and scored on Page’s RBI groundout. Similarly, in the sixth Croslin singled to start the seventh, stole second, and scored on Nichols’ grounder.
Croslin led off the fifth with a single, stole second and scored on McLellan’s ground out.
Page and Pollard each had two hits and two RBIs. Page and Nichols doubled. Harris worked a rare walk.
