Both of Logan County’s varsity cross country teams finished second in the Ryan Snellen Meet at Central Hardin High School this weekend.
Meredith Johnson topped the Lady Cougars with a second-place individual finish while Thomas Lyne led the Cougars with a fourth-place run. John Hendricks, who almost stayed out of the race because of a leg injury, was second among the Cougars and sixth overall.
“The girls team was missing two of our top five runners,” notes Coach Joe Dan Laster. “However three 8th graders--Eliza Hagens (Auburn), Emma Trent (Auburn), and Alyssa Garret (Lewisburg)—all stepped up and ran extremely impressive runs. They were led by team captain Meredith Johnson who was only just 2.5 seconds away from running a new PR herself.
“Our girls team has been overlooked this year due to the success that the boys have been having. But they have an extraordinary future ahead of them.”

“If you see any Cross Country runners please give them words of encouragement leading to this weekend. The boys are going after a regional title (which would be the first time we've won a 3A region title ever) and the girls are trying to qualify as many as we can,” Laster says.
