Led by three seniors and a sophomore, the Logan County Lady Cougars made their first victory of the season an important one Friday, beating district rival Todd Central 72-60.
Logan had been averaging only 39 points again but scored 40 in the first half of this one. Coach Finley Baird’s team was ahead 31-20 when sophomore Sarah Beth Hale scored seven straight points to make the Logan lead 38-20 at the half.
Todd cut the margin to six, but sophomores Abigail Lindsey and Blayke Bingham each hit a pair of free throws. When Paige Vanzant scored on an assist from Carlie Alvis, the Lady Cougars led 56-45 at the end of the third quarter.
Senior Logan Williamson and freshman Peyton Vanzant had big fourth quarters to preserve the lead and secure the win.
Williamson scored 11 of her 16 points in the second half, and Jessica Hines had 10 of her 12 points by halftime. They are both seniors, as is Ann-Meguiar Bouldin, who added 9 points.
Bailey Conquest led Coach Steven McGhee’s team and the game with 18 points while Amy Brumfield added 14, but Logan held Alexis O’Daniel to 3 points.
Todd fell to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in the district. Logan is 1-8, 1-1.
