Southcentral Kentucky Community and Technical College (SKYCTC) has selected Stephanie Tolliver Hyman as the new Dean of Arts and Humanities. Born and raised in southwestern Virginia, Ms. Hyman is a first-generation college graduate who is proud of her Appalachian heritage.

She holds a Master of Arts degree in English from the University of Richmond and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from the University of Virginia’s College at Wise, where she also earned a minor in Spanish. For more than 15 years, Hyman has taught English composition and literature in community and technical college systems in both Virginia and the Carolinas, where she has also served as a department chair and a writing center director.

An award-winning teacher, she was named the 2012 RJ Reynolds Excellence in Teaching recipient for the state of North Carolina; additionally, she has received several other teaching honors, including the 2020 President’s Award at York Technical College, where she currently serves as an English instructor.

She is a published essayist and poet, with publications appearing in Luminarium, Chicken Soup for the Soul, You & Me: America’s Medical Magazine, and South Carolina Bards.

Outside of teaching and writing, Hyman enjoys spending time with her husband, daughter, and two spoiled cats. Some of her favorite hobbies include geocaching, cooking, reading, and making jewelry.

“I'm beyond excited to join the family at SKYCTC and look forward to working with everyone,” shared Hyman. “The faculty and staff I've had the opportunity to meet have made me feel very welcome and at home, and it is my pleasure to be a part of this team.”

The faculty and staff of SKYCTC welcome Ms. Hayman to her new role of Dean at the College.
