A night of celebrating the world's diversities is planned Thursday from 6-9 p.m. at Logan County High School. The school’s International Club members have been studying different cultures and hope to create a festival that will become an annual event. The public is welcome to attend the International Show at the LCHS Auxiliary Gymnasium.

Activities for the International Night celebration include, but are not limited to, the following: fashion show featuring clothing from Mexico, Spain, Morocco, China, Egypt, Brazil, Honduras, India, Sierra Leone, Germany and France; songs and dances from a collection of different countries- performed by club members; ethnic foods representing French, Spanish, Mexican, Bosnian, German, Thai, Indian, African, Native American, Latin American, and Italian cuisine. Door prizes will be given.

Also, games and about six booths will start at 5:30. Anyone who is interested can come early to take advantage of calligraphy from five countries, meeting International students from WKU and much more!

Among those participating will be Tyler Vaughan playing Spanish guitar, Jessica and Christina Link playing bluegrass, Tori Lynch doing a country song, Jessica Owens with a French song and poem, Isaac Mamaod with an African dance, Amy Higgins and Chris Ashby performing a belly dance, Deja Thomspon with an Adele medley, Jesse Clark with a Halo, Beth Powell, Litha Shoulders and Diandian Liu performing a Chinese dance, and a soccer show featuring Logan Johnson, Landon Stratton and Jacob Moberly. The band will play variations on a Korean folk song.

International Night is the brainchild of the International Club's sponsor, Lhousseine Guerwane, a native of Morocco and a graduate of Western Kentucky University who is fluent in eight languages. He’s known as ‘Louie,’ “Mr. G” and “Citizen G” at LCHS. Prior to coming to Logan County, Louie taught English in Spain but today finds himself teaching Spanish to Logan County High School’s primarily English speaking students. His native language is Berber; Moroccans also speak French and Arabic.

He spent his first summer after a year of high school teaching last year traveling around Europe. More importantly, Lhousseine Guerwane traveled to Louisville on Feb. 24 and took the United States Oath of Allegiance, completing his journey to becoming a U.S. citizen.

“Whatever the language, anyone that gets to spend much time with Mr. G is sure to recognize his enthusiasm for his students and new country. Congratulations, Citizen G, you worked hard for this honor—may your heart forever beat true for the red, white & blue,” the LCHS website said.

Sponsors are LCHS Foreign Language Department, Youth Services, FFA and International Club. Donors are Wal-Mart Super Center, Ski Daddy’s and El Molcajete.
