The annual Russellville High School Show of Bands is set for Saturday, Sept. 18, at Historic Rhea Stadium. This year’s contest will feature eight bands with Edmonson County leading off the competition with their performance at 6 p.m. and Russellville set to close the competition with the final performance at 8:15.

Sandwiched in between will be performances from Warren Central, Hancock County, Greenwood, South Warren, Logan County, and North Hardin. Upon the completion of performances and scoring, awards should begin at approximately 8:45.

This year’s show for the Panther Band is centered on the story of Eréndira the Warrior Princess through music. According to Aztec culture, there were no women warriors except for Eréndira, the Princess of Purépecha.

The 16th century legend tells of a young heroine’s bravery refusing to allow her land to be destroyed by the Spanish conquistadors. The emotional marching band music depicts the strength and beauty of this warrior princess using original themes rich with colorful scoring and a modern, world percussion soundscape.

Director Trevor Cardwell’s Marching Panthers finished second in their divisionat the Franklin-Simpson Band Show Saturday
